- 2(2picc)24(E|,bcl,cbcl)2(cbsn) 4001
- 7/13/1984 - 10/6/1984
- Written for Parnassus. Dedicated to the memory of Serge and Natalie Koussevitzky
- The work may be played in two ways: 1) an orchestra piece with a large solo group (the solo double-bass should be played with the winds; 2) as a chamber work, either a) omitting the ripieno strings (retaining the solo double-bass) or b) replacing the ripieno string sections with solo strings. The premiere was the one for fifteen solo instruments, performed by Parnassus.
- Commissioned by the Koussevitzy Foundation.
