The HAROUN SONGBOOK is a fifty-minute cycle of vocal pieces scored for piano and four singers. Based on material from my opera HAROUN AND THE SEA OF STORIES (after the novel by Salman Rushdie), the Songbook is an independent work, in which the piano part is not accompaniment, but a virtuoso participant in its own right, and the four singers frequently collaborate in various ensembles.
